Baby Bags: Supporting Early Literacy for Families
We are thrilled to be able to offer Baby Bags full of fun and educational materials for families! Our Baby Bags contain parent tip sheets, library information, manipulatives such as a scarf and shaker egg, and of course a few books that are perfect to share with babies! They also contain a Family Resource Booklet, which lists a variety of organizations and resources that support families with young children both in Bridgeville and throughout Allegheny County. Included in each Baby Bag is a coupon, which can be brought back to the library on a subsequent visit for an additional board book.
We were able to create Baby Bags thanks to a project through the Allegheny County Library Association, with funding from the Grable and Pittsburgh Foundations. The bags are designed to educate parents about the importance of early literacy, to share community resources for local families, and also to create additional awareness of the library and what we have to offer families with young children
Our first Baby Bag distribution was in partnership with the Bridgeville Area Diaper Bank, located at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Baby Bags are currently available at the library for families with babies up to 24 months, while supplies last. Be sure to ask about them at the circulation desk!
