Director Spotlight: Erin Weaver
Now in her second year as Director of the Bridgeville Public Library, Erin Weaver brings over fifteen years of experience in public libraries to her role. She began her career in Georgia as a Library Associate and, after five years, continued her journey in North Carolina before returning to her hometown of Pittsburgh. Erin joined Bridgeville Public Library in a part-time position and over time advanced to Assistant Director. In 2024, she was appointed Director following the amicable conclusion of the library’s partnership for management agreement with South Fayette Township Library.
We sat down with Erin to learn more about her experiences and her vision for the future of Bridgeville Public Library.
What is your favorite part of the job?
Working with the public and our community partners. It’s so rewarding when we’re able to bring new services and programs to the library.
Any accomplishments that you’re most proud of?
The expansion of our large print collection. When I started, it had about 250 items, now it has close to 900 titles.
Are there any favorite events or memories that stand out?
One of my favorite events is the Friends’ Haunted Halloween party. It’s a not-so-spooky Halloween party for all ages that takes over the entire library. There are games, crafts, music, and costumes. It’s wonderful to see our families enjoy the event every year. The party is made possible thanks to the dedication of our wonderful Friends of the Library group.
What would you want someone who is new to the borough to know about the library?
That the library offers an incredible range of resources. We have free programs for all age groups, and we have many items available for check-out that you wouldn’t normally think of, such as museum passes, board games, and hot spots.
What do you think is the most important thing that the library does?
Providing free and equitable access to information, technology, and resources.
What makes Bridgeville Public Library unique?
One of the many things that makes Bridgeville special is the accessibility of its location. Being in a residential area, people can simply walk to the library, which is wonderful.
What do you see in the future for the library?
We will continue to find creative ways to grow the library and meet our patrons’ needs.
Do you have a favorite book?
It’s tough to pick just one! I like a variety of genres. I recently listened to Listen for the Lie, by Amy Tintera, which was an excellent mystery/thriller, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a definite favorite that I try to re-read every few years.
