Volunteer Spotlight: Terri Aquilina
If you’ve purchased a book from our used book cart or bought one from our book sale, then the chances are good that the book you’re holding passed through the hands of Terri Aquilina. Long-time member and Treasurer for the Friends of the Library, Terri sorts the book donations that we receive, stocks the book cart weekly, and serves on our Friends Board to help plan all sorts of amazing events.
We sat down with Terri to learn a little more about what brought her to the Friends of the Library.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I am the mom of six grown children and the “nana” of seven grandkids. I grew up near Gettysburg, PA, but have lived in Bridgeville since 1991. I homeschooled my kids and I now have plenty of time to volunteer at my favorite library.
Q: How long have you been a part of the Friends of the Library?
A: I’m not sure when I officially became a member of the Friends of the Library, but I started volunteering at the Friends’ bookstore in 2005. I joined the Friends board in 2016.
Q: What made you want to become involved?
A: I love books and libraries!
Q: Are there any favorite memories that you’d like to share?
A: The book sales are fun, and so is our Halloween event.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the Friends?
A: The group that we have is very special. There are no power struggles or unpleasantness. We each do what we’re good at and everyone is genuinely nice.
Q: What do you see in the future for the Friends?
A: I would like to see more volunteers! We have something for everyone to do, even if you can only help once in a while.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: Oh please! I can’t limit it to one! I love Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Currently, I am reading lots of Belinda Bauer and I am also a fan of the late Ruth Rendell.
Q: Any final words to share?
A: I love to match people with books. If you see me working on the book cart, let me know what you are looking for! Also, please join our Friends group. We have a lot of fun.
