Chartiers Valley Battle of the Books 2024

March 6th was the date for this year’s eagerly anticipated Battle of the Books! Held at Chartiers Valley Intermediate School for 4th & 5th grades and at Chartiers Valley Middle School for 6th – 8th grades, the annual events were coordinated by Youth Services Librarians Karen Verduci and Carrie Lowery in partnership with librarians from Scott Township and Chartiers Valley.

Students formed teams to read books from a selected list for each battle, then competed against other teams to answer questions based on the books. The books selected were a wide range of genres and reading levels and included both newer titles and beloved classics. The questions featured scenarios and quotes from each book, and the students had to write the name of the book and its author to earn points for each question. The competition was fierce at both schools, with only a few points separating the top teams. The winning team at CVIS was the Exploding Kittens, and the CVMS team of The Villagers had a “three-peat” with their third win in a row.

Prizes were also given to teams with the best costumes. The Fellowship of the Rings took the honors at the Middle School, and The Page Turners were the winners at the Intermediate School. Everyone who participated won by reading some new books, having fun with friends, and enjoying refreshments provided by Mrs. Benis at the MS and by the PTG at the IS. It was a sweet way to end a fun literary program!
